As a global and professional biopharmaceutical industry communication platform, the Biopartnering is held annually in Europe, North America, India and China. In 2013, the BPN was held in Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada. Delegates from domestic pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology Parks had been invited by the  Government of British Columbia to take part to the BPN. It was a great opportunity to establish relations with Canadian investors and North American pharmaceutical companies.

Ms. Daisy TAO, the external affairs manager of Juke introduced the background of Juke and provided a general overview of the member companies. Furthermore, Daisy stressed their eagerness to foster communication and cooperation between Juke and North American companies.

During the BPN, Dr. Zhang Jiong, the General Manager of Juke discussed with Mr. Don Enns, the president of Canada Life Science BC the possibility to cooperate. As a non-profit organization, the Life Science BC played a important role in domestic industries. It promotes communication in life science between biotechnology companies, provides financial support as well as helps the enterprises increase their international activities.

Canada is regarded as the fourth largest cluster biotechnology industry in the world. Its activities range from Bio pharmaceutical, diagnostics, medicine, agriculture, food science & technology. Nowadays, more than 100 bio-pharmaceutical and medical device companies are located in British Columbia; most of them arise from research institutes. For example, the University of British Columbia (UBC) has successfully supported more than 100 Biotech Corp, and has attracted investment more than 2billion C$.

In addition, Juke delegation visited two research institutes in order to deeply understand the situation of advanced biotech research activities in BC. Affiliated to the state’s Cancer Research Center, Genome British Columbia focuses on  the large-scale genomics, proteomics research projects and researches covering life sciences, medicine, forestry, fishery, Bio-energy, mining, agriculture and environmental science as well as other important aspects.

Founded in 2007, the Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) in the University of British Columbia (UBC) was an important medicine research center in Canada. Thanks to its successful business model, it was certified as the National Industrialization Center within one year. The CDRD supports clinical drug development and the CDRD Ventures Inc. (CVI) is responsible of the commercialization of the products.. The CVI  bridges the gap between scientific research and business industry. Recently, the CDRD has set up an innovation fund with many famous pharmaceuticals companies, such as Pfizer Inc., Johnson and GSK.

The BPN gave Juke Biotech Park an opportunity to have an insight on industry business in Canada and North America.
